Just your regular, degular, shmegular skin care routine.

“Invest in your skin. It is going to represent you for a very long time.” – Linden Tyler

Hi my beauties! Gather ’round because its skincare time! Just like you, make up has always been my eternal love affair but skin care hasn’t. Whether it be battling hormonal acne or figuiring out which products work best for me, navigating the skin care aisle can be a pretty daunting task. Skin care can be an ever changing routine so here are a few staples that have stood the test of time with me and hopefully will with you!

Now, before we in delve into all the skin care goodies lets start from the begining, skin type. What is your skin type? There are three types of skin, dry, oily, and combination. Dry skin is often dull, patchy and requires lots of moisture. Oily skin is quite the opposite. This skin type generates excess oil and is often acne prone. Then there is combination skin, which can sometimes be considered the best and worst of both worlds. This skin type generally creates excess oil on your t-zone (forehead, nose, chin, and cheeks) and is usually dry or patchy around the perimeter of your face. Please make no mistake, all three of these skin types not only need but deserve the same amount of moisture. We often fall into the belife that oily and combination skin don’t need as much moisture because of the excess oil. That is a skin myth that can prove to be detrimental for your skin. If your concern is to not adding an oily moisturizer to your already oily prone skin, opt out for oil-free or gel based moisturizer. Matte finish moisturizers are also considered life savers for those oily summer months.

Why is it so important to figure out your skin type? It’s important to figure out what your skin type is, in order to figure out what works best for your skin! Personally, my skin care needs can change according to the weather, seasons, and “that time of the month.” This is why I find it important to create a consistent routine with staple products and products that can change according to your needs at the time. So let’s dive in to my skin care routine!

It’s important not to get overwhelemed when creating or even revamping your skin care routine. Something to always keep in mind is to keep the base of your routine simple and add accordingly. The basis of your routine should be to cleanse, tone, and moisturize. When it comes to cleansers always remeber to pick according to your skin type. If you have dry skin choose a cleanser that wont strip your skin but can still clean your skin. However, if you have oily or combination skin choose a cleanser that’ll meet your acne needs without overtly drying out your skin. For me, gentle cleansers have proven to work best. After cleansing remeber to tone! Tonning restores the ph balnce of your skin while taking away any excess dirt that your cleanser might’ve left behind. When looking for toners beaware of the ones that contain alcohol as they severly dry your skin out. The Mario Badescu aloe vera toner has worked wonders for my skin. Add retinol! Retinol has many uses, in my case, I use it for acne clearing purposes but it can also be used for anti-aging. I personally use, differin for my acne prone skin and it has really helped to control my hormonal ance without the use of prescribed medicines. Lastly moisturize! This last step can be can be as in depth or surface level as you’d like. When I moisturize I like to go as in depth as possible to make sure my skin keeps that youthful glow. Lets talk serums and vitamin C! I like to use serums for the sole purpose of brightening and evening my skin tone. Serums that contain vitamin C are perfect for just that and they’re universal for all skin types and skin tones. Now, my skin care routine doesn’t end there. After I add my serum of choice and let that sink in I lock in my routine by moisturizing. Moisturizers are often a touchy subject for sum and can be a hit and miss for many. Personally, I base my moisturizer on my skin type. Because I’m aware that my skin generates oil throughout the day I typically go for oil free or mattening moisturizers. And viola! Just like that your skin thanks you for all the love and care! Till next time my beuties, xo!
